Software Automation Professionals: Pain Point Relief: Automating Documentation

    Weld Nashville

One of the pain points when releasing a new application can be the documentation. Having to gather the right information, edit the data into the right format, and make it look professional can take a lot of time, usually at a point in the release cycle when you need to focus on other elements of the release.

Continuing to explore the idea of removing "test" from test automation, we'll take a look at how we can use automation to make the process of generating documentation a much easier and faster process, using XML, XSLT, Open Office XML, Microsoft Word templates, C#, and Visual Studio.

  • Azure: What to use When?

    Weld Nashville

In IT things are clearly moving from a CapEx to an OpEx model where the focus is shifting from internal data center and hosted applications into the Cloud with its consumption based pricing model. The lure of pay-as-you go pricing is attractive; but it does carry with it some risk. If you choose the wrong applications to move into the cloud it could wind up costing you more than running them locally or at a hosting provider. It also requires increased discipline related to allocation and deallocation of Cloud resources.

We will start off with a discussion of these considerations, and then dig down into the features supported by the Microsoft Azure public cloud. The presentation will include an architectural overview of the Azure platform, its features and services. Since Azure is a very broad offering, we will focus on the question of what the Azure Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) features are, and when they should be used to solve specific business and technical problems.

If you are new to Azure, or not conversant with all of its recent enhancements, this presentation will give you a good overview, not too deep but deep enough, to understand what to use when.

We've partnered with Craft Content Nashville (http://craftcontentnashville.org/) to host UX Day as part of a week's worth of content workshops!

In User Experience we're used to considering how content fits within the interfaces on sites, apps, and products we create. But what happens when the content is the interface?

Join us during Nashville Content Week for a panel discussing the critical role that content plays within User Experience, and the changing landscape of content-driven interfaces that include things like Chatbots, and virtual personal assistants like Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa.

March UX Meetup: Off the Screen and into the Parking Lot

NEW: park in the lot off 2nd Avenue for $2. See the map below for details.

Beyond the Screen, part 3 of 3: Off the Screen and Into the Parking Lot

Problems don't always come tied up with nice bows ready to be solved. In fact, they rarely do. But as they say, a problem well defined is half solved.

For our March Meetup, we'll be exploring ways of defining a problem, and we're doing something a little different this time: we're digging up a parking lot! Well, kinda...

First Scott Tsuchiyama will lead us all through a brief lesson in asking the right questions, then we'll fill our heads with some contextual knowledge courtesy of YouTube. Finally, we'll break into small groups to tackle a problem tear down: digging into what we know and working to extract the problems from the mess.

Photos, supplies and additional data will be provided for each small group to use as you unpack the problem and collaborate on a solution.

Note: in order to facilitate the programming, we'll be kicking things off as close to 6:15 as we can and save networking for after small group work is over.

    Agenda
    6:00 - 6:15 > Drinks, snacks
6:15 - 6:30 > Asking the right questions, Scott Tsuchiyama
    6:30 - 7:15 > Small group activity
    7:15 - 8:00 > Discussion, networking, closing remarks
